Marilyn Larsen Francis

They say “the brightest stars burn out the quickest, but are the most beautiful.” Marilyn passed away at home November 7, 2017 after a determined fight with cancer.  She was born July 10, 1959 to Ferrus and Beth Beardall Larsen. Growing up she could be found playing in ditch banks or riding her horse, keeping the yard neat and beautiful or spending time with her 13 siblings.

She attended Mapleton Elementary, Springville Junior High, Springville High School and Seminary, graduating in 1977. She was active in school and most sports and worked at Happy Service market, loving and serving the people of the community.

After returning from a mission to Barcelona, Spain and after a whirlwind courtship, she married Samuel E. Francis November 19, 1982 in the Provo Utah Temple.   They have four wonderful children:  Ashley (Jady) Day, Ryan (Lindsay) Francis, Michael Francis and Alec Francis.  She enjoyed spending her free time with her children, their spouses and her grandchildren: Ayden, Madelyn, and Ethan Day and Ellie and Cole Francis. She loved her parents and siblings and knew she could count on them for anything.

She worked for 30 wonderful years for Dr. Steven G. Nance, influencing the lives of many women she loved and cared for so much.  She loved serving the Lord and never turned down a calling.  She had an unwavering testimony of our Heavenly Father and the Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her Husband, her children and grandchildren. Also by her mother, Beth B. Larsen, her brothers and sisters: Stan Larsen, LeAnn (Steve) Nance, Janet (Raymond) Neel, Joyce (Dean) Sorensen, Susan (Dave) Priest, Edward (Marian) Larsen, Kathryn (Todd) Linschoten, Brenda (Adam) Beutler, Steven (Nicole) Larsen, Michael (Cindy) Larsen, Julie (Brian) Patterson, and Wes (Amy) Larsen, and many nieces and nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her father Ferrus Larsen and her sister Kaylynn.

Special thanks to her dear neighbor, friends, ward members and those who cared for her these past five years. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn asks those to donate to the Sarah McDonald Cancer Fund at any UCCU branch.

  5. Alan O. Wright

Sad and a little stunned. I’m 2,400 miles to the East and a little disconnected from past friends. I just learned of Marilyn’s Passing. I’ve been away from Utah much over the years but have fond memories of Marilyn, Sam, LaMar, Scott and myself working together at Happy Service Markets years ago when we were in high school together. Sam, you certainly were fortunate to have Marilyn, she was so pleasant to work with (as were you my friend) and I have such good memories of working with her–she genuinely cared about people even if it was just groceries. Wish I wasn’t in Massachusetts and could be there to express my condolences in person. Marilyn was indeed a bright star, she and my wife Angela Arendt served at the same time together in the Barcelona mission though they were never companions. Sam, wish I was there to give you a hug. I know it has been a long time, but I am mindful of you and love you and wish all the Lord’s choicest blessings to be with you and your loved ones. How good it is to know we have our faith and the plan of salvation to assure us we will see loved ones again. May that comfort be with you and yours now and forever.

She was a very special woman, I first met her at Dr. Nance’s office and loved her instantly. When I found out I too had cancer I ran into at the cancer clinic and visited with her. She was truly an inspiration to all she talked to. Many times when I went in she would be sitting and talking to another patient and smiling with encouragement for them.
God had certainly called his special angel.

Although our lives were very different, she was very kind to me, she and Dr. Nance made a wonderful team and I was a patient of Dr. Nance’s for many many years as much because of her as because of him. She was very very kind to me and never ever made me feel “less than” her. She will be missed and everyone who ever had the honor of being around her is blessed because of her grace and kindness. I can only hope to one day see her again.
