Johanna Marie Tonks Bluth

Johanna Marie Tonks Bluth, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in Elk Ridge, Utah surrounded by her family.  She was born January 1, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Moroni and Johanna Adrianna Gobel Tonks.  She graduated from East High School.

She was employed at Kress Department store and as a typist at Hill Air Force Base until she turned 18 and received special permission to serve an LDS Mission to Mexico City.  It was during her time as a missionary that she met Oscar Emanuel Bluth, Jr.  After completing their missions to Mexico City, they were married on October 25, 1946 in the Mesa Arizona temple, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with a large and loving family.  Marie was an exemplary wife and mother, and dedicated her life to serving them.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought joy and sunshine to Marie.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marie loved the gospel and taught the Gospel to her children. She had many callings including Seminary Teacher, Primary and Young Women Presidencies, as well as Choir Director.  Oscar and Marie were able to serve three missions together in Guatemala, Spain, and Mexico City.

Marie enjoyed reading, family history, making jewelry, traveling to Mexico and loved to share her exceptional cooking skills with her family.  She loved to sing with her husband, and especially loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar; children, Oscar Alan (Susan) Bluth, Vicki Bluth Moesinger, Gena Bluth Cravey, Dennis (Denise) Bluth, Gary (Marcia) Bluth, Brent (Kristine) Bluth; 37 Grandchildren and 47 Great-Grandchildren.

  1. Sherry

I am so sad to read this. I didn’t know. I am sad to have missed this funeral. She was a very sweet beautiful Lady. Oscar is a great husband and was very caring and attentive to his sweet wife.

  2. Kathryn "Kathy" Lane

Though I only met her briefly as I attended the Juarez Stake Academy, she raised a wonderful family. I am so sorry for your loss.
