Donna Marie Mechling Marshall

(Grandma Whitehair)

Donna Marie Mechling Marshall (Grandma Whitehair), 85, passed away on August 8th 2017. She was born April 10th 1932 to Daniel and Margaret Mechling in Thayne, Wyoming. She had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She married Allen E Clark and had 3 children. They later divorced and she then married John F Marshall with whom she had 2 more children and also gained 2 step-children. Donna lived in Payson for many years and you could more than likely find her at the Payson Downs racetrack cleaning the stalls and feeding their prized race horses. She was a licensed owner at many tracks including her favorite, Wyoming Downs. You could bet you would find her jumping up and down cheering her horses on in the grandstand. She was a member of the Nebo Cutter Association and Payson Racing Association, she had some big wins in both flat track racing and chariot racing. She was a big fan of the Utah Jazz and never missed a televised game. She even named one of her race horses “Stockton to Malone”. Donna was known for having a sassy attitude but a big heart to go along with it. She was deeply loved by her family and just about anyone she ever came in contact with. We will miss her jokes and her silly personality.

Donna is survived by 2 brothers – Jim and Dennis, 2 sisters – Myrna and Phyllis, 4 children: Vonna (Chris) Johnson – Barry (Becky) Clark – Jana Evans and Georgia (Tim) Haws, 2 step-children: Jeff Marshall and Brad Marshall, 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers: Keith, Glenn, and Walt, and her daughter Denise Guzman.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Country Lane Assisted Living and Justin from AFI Hospice for all that was done for Grandma Whitehair and us.

So sorry we missed the funeral. we were back east for 2 weeks. We love Donna. We would visit her often in her home, and she always made us smile. She had a quick laugh, and she always seemed glad to see us. One of my favorite memories was when we took our 3 year old son with us. She was so excited to show us the new paint in her bedroom. It was as red as it could get. Our son took one look and said “I like green.” She laughed and laughed at that. She was still bringing it up years later. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I was so sorry to hear of Donna’s passing. When she worked at the hospital I got to know her as a good friend and co-worker. We truly loved her and she was a hard worker and always good for a laugh. She will be greatly missed and I loved her like a sister. I’m sure the Lord has a special place for her. I know that you kids will miss her to but know that she is now with her loved ones. I have shed many tears and laughs with you my friend, bye for now. Love to all you kids.

I am so sorry for you loss. Donna always had such a big smile and contagious laugh. She treated me just like one if her kids. I have many great memories of time with her at the race track and the arena. Love you Donna…

  5. I give my deep sympathy to the family during this tough time. Losing a loved one can be very hard to cope with at times. Sometimes the pain may feel unbearable. One thing that has helped me through a loss is 1 Corinthians 15:26. It is very encouraging and provides me with a lot of hope. I hope it comforts you all as well.
