Dalene Smith Hurst

Dalene Smith Hurst, 64, passed away October 31, 2017 in her Lake Shore, UT home surrounded by her beloved family.

Dalene was born November 9, 1952 in Price, UT, to Leslie Bernell and Arvilla Dale Thomas Smith. She married her sweetheart Ray Lynn Hurst of Payson, UT for time and all eternity on May 4, 1973 in the Provo, Utah Temple.  Dalene and Ray Lynn spent forty-four wonderful years together in a marriage that gave life, love, and happiness to six children and sixteen grandchildren.

Dalene loved life. She greeted each day with a smile.   Her greatest joys were found in caring for her family and friends.  She was kind, giving, and loved by all.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings; including   serving a mission with her husband on the Deseret Cattle and Citrus Ranch in Deer Park, FL, an experience she regarded as a highlight of her life.

Dalene was proud of her heritage and honored her ancestors through service in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was skilled in cooking, quilting, crafting, and gardening and loved to teach her grandchildren these arts.  Her principles and legacy were founded on a testimony of Jesus Christ.  Her life exemplified the Book of Mormon scripture Mosiah 2:17, “When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”

Dalene was preceded in death by her loving father Leslie Bernell Smith, her brother Paul Leslie Smith, her sweet daughter Camarie Hurst, and her dear grandson Matthew Roberts James. She is survived by her husband, Ray Lynn Hurst, her children:  Michael Smith Hurst (Mia Apatow) Manhattan Beach, CA; David Romney Hurst (Haley Crahan) Lake Shore, UT;  Melissa Hurst (Richard James),  Midland, MI; Matthew Thomas Hurst (Adrie Mattinson) Lehi, UT; and John Miles Hurst of Lake Shore, UT, her beloved sixteen grandchildren,  her mother, Arvilla Dale Smith, and her four sisters, Carolyn, Susan, Lori and Lisa.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, UT.   The funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on November 4th, 2017 at the Spanish Fork West Stake Center, 575 West 480 North, Spanish Fork, UT. Prior to the service, there will be a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45a.m.

Sister Hurst was our adopted grandma here on the DCC ranch. She loved us like we were her own and we never felt anything but love from her. She was so Christ-like, kind, crafty, and caring. We are grateful to have known her and been a part of her too-short life.
